No, Lauren Martinchek, there won’t be a revolution!

It is the case that the ‘boogaloo boix’ are trying to radicalize average citizens, with ‘white supremicists’ trying to demonize people of color. Their destruction of private property that facilitated looting and of governmental property successfully led to a heavy-handed (green-and-)brown shirts response by irresponsible, egocentric officials. However, by and large, these heavy-handed responses have been decried by other officials and citizens groups. We know that policing forces have been used to intimidate various portions of our society (e.g. immigrants from Ireland), but by incorporating (integrating) the intimidating groups (by use of the ballot box) into the policing forces, these issues have been ended. I believe it is true that we need additional funding for everyday police forces to ensure their training includes the diverse view of society that is felt by reasonable citizens.

Overall, the U.S. Constitution was designed with numerous checks and balances in order to end the need for revolutions. Even following the acrimonious name-calling surrounding the adoption of the Constitution, once adopted, the antagonist parties agreed to abide by it. This is because the Founders of the United States believed, above all else, in the Rule of Law. This hasn’t stopped local armed rebellions in our nation’s history, but they have all been squelched and never gained widespread support. In fact, the overall response has been to scold the rebels for not using the provided tools, ballot-box and courts, to work out differences, and that to raise arms against a State or the nation was treasonous. The one major rebellion, the Civil War, was forcefully ended. The American revolutionary war itself did not become a war until the British began to use military forces to enforce oppression. Prior to that, the colonial response was primarily through boycotts and lawsuits.

So, no, there won’t be a revolution! The numerous levels of checks and balances built into our legal system make that unnecessary. On a practical note, there will never be enough citizens willing to rebel for any single cause. If there were, they would win at the ballot box!
